Join us for our third walk through Pisa — this time starting near the train station, or the airport, which is only about a 20-minute walk away.
Instead of heading straight for the Leaning Tower, we’ll explore the part of Pisa that many visitors simply pass through. We begin at Keith Haring’s colorful Tuttomondo mural, then follow Corso Italia toward the Arno River.
Along the way, we’ll stop at the Logge dei Banchi and Ponte di Mezzo, the setting for Pisa’s famous Gioco del Ponte — a historic rivalry between the two sides of the city that still returns every year as one of Pisa’s most spectacular traditions.
From there, we’ll discover the unusual stone Church of Santo Sepolcro, places connected with Mary and Percy Shelley, and the former San Matteo monastery. We’ll continue to Piazza Garibaldi and wander along Borgo Stretto, one of Pisa’s most atmospheric streets, while looking for traces of Galileo Galilei.
We’ll also visit the Church of San Michele in Borgo, explore the lively Piazza delle Vettovaglie, see the medieval Torre del Campano, and finish by searching for traces of the many towers that once shaped Pisa’s skyline.
It’s a walk through everyday, medieval, and modern Pisa — and a great way to discover just how much more there is to the city beyond its famous Leaning Tower.
